Explain the typical music label that would produce or distribute our music video

As a group our chosen artist is ‘Chase and Status’ and they specialize in the genres dubstep, drum and bass and Hip-Hop.

These genres are relatively new and therefore the artists that specialize in these genres are rarely signed and produced to the major record labels. H

owever, Warner has recently signed Pendulum a drum and bass band. Generally these genres are dominated by a group of specific record labels such as Sothern record Distributors, Ram Records and Mercury, that

only produce Dubstep, drum and bass music. Artists such as Chase and status and pendulum are being recognized more as ‘mainstream’ music artists and therefore the major record labels are gaining ever more interest in them and bands associ

ated with these genres.

The bulk of drum and bass vinyl records and CDs are distributed globally and regionally by a relatively small number of companies such as SRD (Southern Record Distributors), ST Holdings, & Nu Urban.

Our chosen artist is signed to label called ‘Ram Records’ they are a British record label that only producers Drum and bass music. They began in 1992 as a Jungle label but widened there specialized field to drum and bass and are now the main pioneers of the genre. Other labels that have had an impact on the drum and bass scene are small companies such as SRD (Southern Record Distributors), ST Holdings, Nu Urban, Full Cycle

Records and V.Recordings.

Other high profiled drum and bass artists signed to Ram Records are Culture Shock and Sub Focus. Who have recently enjoyed success with their music and albums they have produced, all reaching the top 40 in the charts. This is a very

successful concept for drum and bass and dubstep artists because this genre is a very underground genre and only becoming popular with the music industry.
